After the disruption that Covid brought, Guernsey Museums have seen a busy season with lots of events across their sites, including KPMG Castle Nights, Twilight Cinema and the Fete d'Etai.
Footfall has almost returned to 2019 levels which, according to the Head of Heritage Services is very encouraging.
Helen Glencross said:
"We have a couple of weeks of the season remaining and then Castle Cornet, Fort Grey and the German Naval Signals HQ will close for the winter on Sunday 30th October. However, we plan to squeeze in a few more activities and events before we close!
"During October half term, all our sites will be open as usual. At Castle Cornet, there is the added attraction of a beautiful folklore-inspired art exhibition called 'Once Upon An Island' by Penny Dawes. The exhibition is supported by Guernsey Arts and takes place from 22nd - 30th October. On 29th and 30th October, there will be extra spooky fun for the family with a 'Haunted Castle' weekend. The Castle is open daily through Half Term, 10.00-17.00.
"At Guernsey Museum at Candie, there will be film screenings at 10.30 (daily from 24th to 28th October). Films are seasonal and suitable for a family audience. It's a 'secret cinema', so families are invited to just turn up. (If you would like to know the title in advance, please call us on 226518 or join the 'Guernsey Museum Films' group on Facebook). Normal admission applies, so entry is FREE with a Discovery Pass."
Guernsey Museum at Candie will remain open and there are three more exciting exhibitions to see before the end of the year.
- Shore, Lines and Brush Marks: an exhibition of Guernsey`s coastline by artists Rosanne Guille, who recently relocated from Sark, and Deborah Grice award winning British landscape artist, hailing from East Yorkshire. Long-term friends and sources of each other's inspiration, this will be their first time exhibiting together. The exhibition will run from 21st October - 31st December in the greenhouse gallery.
And two exhibitions produced in partnership with the Guernsey Photography Festival in the Brian White Gallery.
- For the Love of the Land by Sian Davey: Sian is one of the international artists commissioned by the Guernsey Photography Festival and Guernsey Museums in recent years to produce a specific body of work about the Bailiwick of Guernsey as part of the Artist in Residence Programme. For the Love of the Land' explores Guernsey's farming community: their joy, sacrifice, dedication, pride and fragility. The exhibition runs from the 22nd October - 20th November.
- Floodzone by Anastasia Samoylova: Floodzone is a photographic project reflecting and responding to the problem of rising sea levels around Miami. The exhibition runs from the 26th November - 31st December.
The team will also host three family friendly 'Candie Christmas' Sunday events in December, themed as 'Christmas of Curiosities' with Christmas trivia and activities to tie in with our 2022 Timewarp: The Wonder Room.
