Invitations to complete the annual Economic Activity Return for 2023 are being issued to selected employers that operate in Guernsey and Alderney.
Around 500 employers are selected to complete the Return each year. Those selected will be contacted directly in April by letter. The Return can be completed online or by completing a paper form, but completing it is a requirement under the law for all selected employers.
The Return asks employers to provide information relating to certain types of incomes and expenditures over the past two years and forecasts of those for the next two years. This information will help improve the accuracy of economic statistics including Gross Value Added (GVA) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Helen Walton, Head of Data and Analysis, said,
"We started asking for information directly last year, so we could improve the accuracy of the figures we produce and provide to Islanders and government. We had really great engagement with employers and used the data gathered to inform our GVA and GDP calculations. We'll be cross-referencing the data we gather this year with last year's to make additional improvements.
This year, we have aligned our deadline with Statistics Jersey, who recently launched its Annual Business Survey, which asks for very similar information for the same purpose.
Completing the Return, for those that are selected, is a legal requirement. But the Return can be completed in a range of formats and we will provide support as needed."
