New telephone numbers for some schools and services

Friday 02 March 2012

As part of a States-wide telecommunications project to reduce expenditure on operational services, a number of schools and education services are changing their telephone numbers.

Forest Primary, La Houguette Primary, St. Martin's Primary and Vale Infant Schools all had ageing switchboard systems which were obsolete, unreliable and could no longer be technically supported. These switchboards have now been replaced with a single corporate system that is able to run over the States IT network, meaning reduced costs and improved reliability.

The change means that these four schools have new telephone numbers and the Education Department is asking members of the community to note down these new numbers as they won't be listed in the telephone directory until 2013. Schools have already informed their respective parents.

The new numbers are

Forest Primary School 756014

La Houguette Primary School 756020

St. Martin's Primary School 756026

Vale Infant School 756032

These new numbers should be used from now on although the existing numbers will continue to be in operation for a while.

Additional services may be introduced later such as a dedicated number for each school to provide information on school activities.

The move of the Youth Service and Schools' Music Service to the former St. Peter Port School site, now called Les Ozouets Campus, means these services also have new numbers.

Schools' Music Service 756097

Youth Service 756099

The Education Department's headquarters in the Grange will also be part of the States-wide initiative and in preparation for its migration to the corporate system has a new number in operation.

Education Department main office 733000

Members of the public are asked to note down these new numbers and start using them with immediate effect. Calls will automatically be diverted to the new numbers until the end of July but after this, these old numbers will no longer be available and you will be asked to redial at no charge. The Department apologises for any inconvenience that this may cause.
