Cobo sea wall further emergency works

Monday 18 May 2020

During a routine inspection of the seawall at Cobo following the recent Spring tides a further area of wall was identified as in need of urgent repair. The section of wall affected is to the north of the work currently underway in front of the Rockmount, and is not due to the same issue.

This is an area of high importance and a repair will be undertaken along a 5m stretch of wall where joints in the coping stones (the stones forming the top of the wall) have failed, allowing the stones to move. Scaffolding will be erected on the seaward side of the wall and repointing will take place on joints on the road, seaward and top faces of the wall.

Work on site will commence on 25th May and a one-way traffic system will be in place for the duration of the works, which are anticipated to take around 3 weeks. The one-way system on the Cobo coast road will remain in place for this period.

Given the risk to the seawall and the utilities within the road, the works have been authorised as "essential works". Correct social distancing and hygiene will be maintained by all personnel participating and efforts made to reduce movements of vehicles and personnel as far as is possible.

Investing in coastal defence continues to be a priority. Large scale repointing of the wall will take place from the slipway at the filter with Route de Carteret to the slipway at the Cobo Bay Kiosk this year. Work is now being undertaken in a manner that will allow for this emergency repair and the planned maintenance to be combined.

Agriculture, Countryside & Land Management Services apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents and the public during these essential works.
