Saturday 18 April 2020

A total of 93 young musicians have come together, virtually, during the Easter holidays to record an arrangement for You'll Never Walk Alone that has been published today on social media.

All musicians appear on-screen at the same time for the heartfelt rendition of the classic song. The Guernsey Youth Orchestra and Youth Choir normally meet every Saturday and each recorded their part from their own homes to pay tribute to the community during this challenging time.

Tim Wright, Head of the Guernsey Music Centre, said:

'We wanted to pay tribute to everybody in isolation, all healthcare workers and also everybody in all parts of the States of Guernsey and wider community who are working so hard for our island during this crisis. Naturally it took a lot of organising and work to bring this all together remotely, so we hope people like it.'

To put the performance together, a google drive folder was created for individual parts with click tracks embedded into them that each student then performed on their individual instrument at home. They then uploaded their videos onto a google drive folder from which they were mixed together - the final screen shows all of them performing the piece.

Anyone who wants to view the performance can do so on the Facebook pages of the Friends of the Guernsey Music Centre and States of Guernsey.
