Expert by Experience and Business Community Representative sought - Mental Health and Wellbeing Steering Group

Tuesday 17 January 2023

Following the publication of David Gedze's second review of Mental Health & Wellbeing Services in Guernsey and Alderney in October 2022, the Committee for Health & Social Care committed to refreshing the Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and reconvening the Mental Health and Wellbeing Steering Group (MHWSG) for Guernsey and Alderney.

The meetings of the MHWSG were put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic but it was recognised that this group would be essential in addressing the gaps in provision already identified in a service mapping exercise.

It was announced in October 2022 that a core membership had been identified and that the group would look to appoint a member with lived experience to provide the group with real experience and insight from someone who has used our services.

A job description has recently been agreed and adverts released encouraging people to apply to join the MHWSG as an Expert by Experience or Business Community Representative. These have been published in the media and on the States of Guernsey social media accounts.

The Expert by Experience will have lived experience of mental ill health or be a close family member of someone with lived experience of mental ill health. The Business Community Representative will represent the local business community and have an interest in mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Both will be recruited as bank staff members of Specialist Mental Health Services. This means that they will be paid for time spent supporting service development and quality improvement through attending and contributing to the MHWSG.
