Islanders are being reminded of the criteria for receiving family allowance.
Since January 2022, the following criteria apply:
- Family allowance is only paid to people with a gross annual household income below £120,000. This includes the income of the person receiving family allowance, their husband, wife or any partner they are living with.
- Family allowance stops when a child turns 18 (provided they are still in full-time education).
If a family's household income was previously above £120,000 but is expected to fall below that level for 2023, Employment & Social Security is encouraging them to contact the Customer Hub by emailing pensionsallowances@gov.gg or calling 01481 221000 to discuss making a claim as soon as possible.
Similarly, if a family's household income for 2023 is expected to increase above £120,000 (before any deductions), they should contact the Customer Hub to avoid overpayments or recoveries at a later date.
Families are also reminded that, since January 2022, the costs of a GP appointment and visiting the Emergency Department were reduced to £25 for every child, while the cost of a child's appointment with a nurse at a GP practice was reduced to £15. All children are also eligible for a free annual dental check-up. These reductions were made possible as a result of changes to the family allowance agreed by the States in 2021, which allowed funding to be redirected towards children's health and dental care. £150,000 was also made available for enrichment and cultural activities for children at primary school.
Further information about family allowance can be found on the webpage www.gov.gg/familyallowance.
