Plans for how the incoming Year 6 will transition to secondary school in September 2021 have been released by the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture.
Previous arrangements needed updating after the review of secondary education began.
Destination secondary schools will remain the same as they were in 2019 and 2020 for the island's primary schools, with one exception. Pupils at Vauvert Primary School will feed into The Grammar School from 2021, rather than La Mare de Carteret.
The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture decided to make this tweak to the feeder model to allow for a more even distribution of students across the four secondary school sites, to ensure class sizes did not run over capacity at one school, while another had a very small year group.
Parents were written to earlier in the week explaining the update, and they will still be able to submit OCAPS requests if they wish their child to attend a secondary school other than the one linked to their primary school, to, for example, allow siblings to go to school together.
Deputy Matt Fallaize, President of the Committee forEducation, Sport & Culture said:
"It is of course necessary to keep parents as informed as possible about the path their children have through education, and so we wanted to make a decision on what the feeder school model will look like for the incoming Year 6 cohort. This decision was made using the best data available, and will be updated by the new Education Committee when a secondary model has been agreed."
