The States of Guernsey are carrying out a review of the legislation that relates to the dissolution (divorce and nullity) of marriage and judicial separation.
The aims of the review are to modernise and simplify the legislation whilst ensuring that it is inclusive and fair.
To understand in more detail what, if any, issues there are with the current system and to inform any proposals for changes to the legislation individuals who have divorced, separated or had a marriage annulled in Guernsey have been consulted. This targeted consultation is part of a wider consultation piece with stakeholders directly involved with or affected by the Matrimonial Causes legislation and seeks to gather information to evidence the needs for change. The information gathered will inform the draft proposals to change the legislation and the public will be consulted on these later in 2018.
The findings from the targeted consultation will be shared with consultees in August.
