Work continues to restore access to online tax returns through MyGov

Work is continuing to fix issues preventing customers from completing their 2021 personal tax returns online.

More than 1,000 customers successfully completed their returns online over the weekend, but investigations today show problems developed affecting significant numbers of customers from around 6pm yesterday evening.

Work has been taking place today to narrow down the potential causes of what appears to be a complex fault, and unrelated to any other recent issues that have affected online services.  The States of Guernsey is, with Agilisys and other technical partners, working to understand the detail of the fault and provide a solution as a priority, but at this stage it is not possible to confirm how quickly this will be.

This morning, the Revenue Service confirmed it would extend the deadline for returns by ten days until 17 March 2023. This extension applies to both online and paper returns.  The Revenue Service will keep this deadline under review and if the problems with online returns are not solved quickly, it will consider further extensions to ensure all customers have a fair opportunity to provide their returns.

The 2022 personal tax returns were due to be made available from 8 March.  They will now be made available as soon as the problems accessing online returns through MyGov are resolved.

Nicky Forshaw, Director of the Revenue Service said

"We are, with our technical partners, doing everything we can to fix this issue but unfortunately it has not been possible to do so already.  We apologise again to all our customers who will be feeling frustrated, and we thank them for their patience."

Bethan Haines, Chief Resources Officer for the States of Guernsey said

"I would like to assure customers that resolving this matter is a priority for us and we are working as fast as possible to do that. I would also like to apologise for this disruption and thank everyone for bearing with us while we address it.  We will keep the community updated."

Customers who are experiencing problems are asked not to contact the service at this stage as the team focuses resources on restoring services, and to please keep following the States of Guernsey social media channels and local media for further updates.
