Trading Standards works with businesses (including charity shops etc) in the following areas:
Weights and Measures
Trading Standards administers the Weights and Measures (Guernsey and Alderney) Law, 1991
If you buy or sell anything by weight or measure and are not sure of your legal obligations then please contact us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning 234567
You are likely to be covered by this law if you work in the following areas, although any trade can be covered:
- Licensed Trade
- Builders Merchant
- Freight Carrier
- Jeweller (if you trade in scrap metals or precious stones by weight)
- Petrol and diesel forecourts
Fair Trading including advice to businesses
If you are concerned about any area of Fair Trading, such as unfair contract terms, your obligations when selling online, advertising practices, selling practices or pricing then please contact Trading Standards for advice on 234567 or email email@example.com
Safety of Consumer Products
For help and advice on any safety issues with consumer products that you may sell, whether you have concerns about particular products or need advice on what to do if you've identified a problem, telephone Trading Standards on 234567 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Please call between 9am and 4pm. If we are not available then please leave a message and we will get back to you. Emails will be replied to with two days. If you wish to visit in person then please call ahead to ensure someone is available.
When carrying out any enforcement action, such as visiting businesses, seizing good or equipment or preparing prosecution reports, Trading Standards will always follow it's Enforcement Policy which is available by following this link.
