The States of Guernsey Trading Standards Service is seeking views on proposed changes to the legislation of Weights and Measures in Guernsey and Alderney.
Following a review of the Weights and Measures (Guernsey and Alderney) Law 1991 (the Law), this consultation document is concerned with proposed changes to the Law and associated regulations and is intended to obtain the views of businesses, consumer representatives and the general public on those changes. The Law applies in Guernsey, Alderney and Herm, but does not apply in Sark.
The need for this review of the Law has been confirmed by the Law Officers of the Crown. They have advised the Trading Standards Service that the current law is out of date in comparison to the law in other jurisdictions, and should be updated to ensure that Guernsey businesses are able to compete on a level playing field with UK and international competitors and Guernsey consumers benefit from an effective market.
The Weights and Measures (Guernsey and Alderney) Law 1991 can be found here: http://www.guernseylegalresources.gg/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=71128&p=0
The survey can be completed online by visiting: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/weightsmeasures
Completing the questionnaire will take approximately 5-10 min for the general public and about 20 - 30 min for people responding in a professional capacity or on behalf of an organisation.
Should you require any further information or would like to obtain paper/large print copies of the consultation, please contact David Mullins, Chief Trading Standards Officer by emailing David.Mullins@gov.gg or call 01481 234567
This consultation closes on 30th March and the results will be published within 12 weeks of the close of the consultation.
