The Public Accounts Committee has extended the deadline for expressions of interest from local residents wishing to be considered for non-States membership of the Committee, which is the financial watchdog of the States of Guernsey.
The deadline has been extended to Tuesday 8 May.
Members will sit on Panels to investigate whether value for money is being provided by States' departments. They will have an equal vote on the Committee in determining what issues to examine and in making recommendations to departments and the States of Deliberation for improvement.
The role of the non-States member on the Committee is to bring impartial experience from the commercial world. Those with a professional financial or legal background may be particularly suited. Candidates are not required to have any formal qualifications, however experience or in-depth knowledge of financial related matters would be highly desirable with potential candidates not afraid to ask searching questions, sometimes within a public setting.
A spokesperson for the Committee said:
"Membership of the Committee enables non-States members to contribute in a meaningful way to improving value for money in the States of Guernsey. If you have an analytical mind and are interested in actively participating in holding government departments to account, this may be a role for you."
A brief C.V. should be sent to pac@gov.gg or to the Committee's offices in Sir Charles Frossard House. The Committee Chairman, who will be elected on Tuesday 8 May, will determine who he or she wishes to nominate for the four non-States members posts. Elections for membership taking place on 11 May 2012 in the States of Deliberation.
