Environment Department response to a media enquiry from BBC Radio Guernsey.
BBC Radio Guernsey Enquiry:
Why is it assessing pedestrian movements, please? There is talk of consideration being given to putting in a crossing there - is this the case? Would someone from environment talk about the work being done and why, please?
Environment Department Response:
The Department has previously confirmed that it has carried out speed surveys and pedestrian counts at the North Beach access road in order to address an enquiry about pedestrian safety in this area.
The Department receives numerous enquiries about a whole range of potential road safety issues across the Island and in the event that such claims can be substantiated it then has the opportunity to consider whether there are any possible solutions that could be implemented to try and help mitigate those risks. Pedestrian crossings are but one measure that can be introduced to provide greater certainty for pedestrians wishing to cross the road. Alternatively, traffic calming or other traffic management measures can be introduced in the event that the speed of vehicles is deemed to be a particular concern.
