Household Expenditure Survey: First Prize draw soon

Wednesday 15 August 2012

The first of four prize draws for Households participating in the Policy Council's Household Expenditure Survey is to be held on 21 September 2012. The winning household will receive a first prize of £2,000 and there are also 5 runner up prizes of £100.

In order to be entered into the first draw, households must return their survey forms to Island Analysis or complete the online survey by 14 September 2012.

The survey is being carried out over a full year and there will be three similar draws for households participating in later stages of the survey. Households are selected and approached at random, but they can also volunteer to take part (see contact details below). The survey is conducted on a confidential basis by Island Analysis and the Policy Council will not receive any information which will enable them to identify any household or individual taking part.

The survey results are used primarily to update the Guernsey inflation indices (RPIX and RPI) and are vital for insuring that they continue to accurately reflect what people in Guernsey spend their money on. RPIX and RPI are among the most important and widely used statistics produced in Guernsey. They are used for wage negotiations and reviewing payment agreements such as rents, child maintenance payments and business contracts. The indices are also used for setting and monitoring government budgets and to inform annual reviews of benefits such as pensions and supplementary benefit.
