GCSE 'Gold Standard' up by 15%

Thursday 23 August 2012

The Island's 16 year olds have posted an excellent set of GCSE and Level 2 results, showing an increase on every statistical indicator from last year.

More than 65% of students achieved the so-called 'gold standard' of passing five or more GCSEs or Level 2 equivalent qualifications including English and Maths at grade C or above. That's an increase of 14.9% over last year's results.

Although the results still remain provisional, the Bailiwick and individual school results are as follows (please note that the Bailiwick figures include results from the 3 grant-aided Colleges but the Education Department does not report the Colleges' individual results. Bailiwick figures include the whole Year 11 cohort)

Education Minister Robert Sillars was delighted with the results.

These results are a testament to the hard work of our young people not only over the last two years of their GCSE courses but throughout their time at school.

On behalf of the Education Board, my congratulations go to all those students who have received their results today and also to their teachers who have encouraged and supported them to realise their potential.

As predicted the results at our High Schools have significantly improved after last year's dip. Our job is to ensure that we continue to build on this good performance.

I would like to wish all our students the best of luck as they move on to the next stage of their education at the Grammar School Sixth Form Centre or College of Further Education or as they embark on their future career or employment training.
