Following careful consideration of the recommendations from the independent Milk Price Review Panel, the Commerce and Employment Department has approved increases, which are in line with RPI changes, that will take effect on Sunday 6 October 2013.
The fixed retail price for a litre pack of Guernsey Dairy milk will be 111p. This price applies to all retail sales, be they in shops or on doorsteps.
The new retail prices for milk sold locally will become:-
Skimmed, semi-skimmed, & full cream - Litre packs 111 pence
Half litres - (types as above) 63 pence
Organic Milk - Half litres 81 pence
The price changes implement, in full, recommendations from the independent Milk Price Review Panel which met in July and considered submissions from, and had discussions on milk pricing and factors affecting the supply chain with, the key dairy industry stakeholder groups.
Minister of Commerce and Employment, Deputy Kevin Stewart commented:
"My Board were grateful for the thoughtful and careful report we received from the Milk Price Panel again this year. The Panel has aimed to balance the wish to contain price rises for consumers and ensure that the industry has sufficient funding to remain viable.
We were pleased to note that the strong financial performance of the Dairy has meant that they took no increase from these changes this year.
Even after this 3 pence increase our excellent quality locally produced milk is still available at a realistic price for customers."
