The Home Department's consultation on the draft Domestic Abuse Strategy 2015-2020 is due to close on Friday 30 January.
The main strands of the strategy are Prevention, Protection and Justice, Provision of Support and Partnership Working, and the strategy sets out the proposed approach to tackling the issue for the next five years.
Peter Gillson, Minister of the Home Department, says:
"The number of responses that we have received from members of the community has been high and the feedback received has been very useful. It is clear that the public feels very strongly about the impact of domestic abuse and recognises the importance of putting in place interventions to tackle the issue. We are really pleased that individuals who have experienced domestic abuse and members of their family have taken the time to complete the online questionnaire and would encourage others to have their say."
"We would really welcome any additional feedback from members of our community who would like to contribute to the consultation. It is a shocking reality that in 2013 domestic abuse made up almost 50% of violent crime in the Islands, and figures indicate there are, on average, 13 incidents being reported to the police every week. Domestic abuse impacts on virtually every aspect of victims' lives and all too often has long term consequences for children and adults."
