Environment Department response to media enquiry from Guernsey Press.
Guernsey Press Enquiry:
I am writing an article following reports of potholes along the Bordeaux footpath area and I wondered if you would be able to provide a response from Environment?
Is the department aware of the potholes?
Are there any plans to better maintain the potholes?
How regularly are footpaths and indeed this particular area checked during the month?
How much does it cost to maintain/fill potholes on a yearly basis?
Does the department have any message it wants to send to the public, in particular those who are dissatisfied with the potholes?
If you could get back to me today, it would be greatly appreciated.
Environment Department Response:
The Department has responsibility for 40 car parks and the Board has a £20,000 allocation in 2015 for repairs to vehicle tracks and car parks with a one off allocation of £45,000 to upgrade priority car parks according to condition and usage. The paths and tracks in the Bordeaux area were routinely checked earlier this month.
The Environment Department is aware of potholes at the public track just south of Le Parcq lane, north or Bordeaux Harbour and repair works have been discussed with the Department's contractor. The unpaved surface is currently waterlogged and works will be undertaken to re-grade the damaged area to remove the potholes as soon as the weather improves sufficiently to allow the surface to drain and dry. The Department had discussed the temporary closure of the track to traffic to prevent further damage due to the very wet conditions with a representative of local fishermen. However it was considered that temporary closure would cause difficulty for vehicle users of the area.
