Public meetings arranged to discuss States' reform

Reform proposals, if approved, will change the structure and operation of the States of Guernsey, will be debated early in July.

The States will meet on 7 July at a meeting arranged specifically to discuss the reforms.

Two public meetings have been arranged in order for islanders to hear first-hand from the Committee responsible for the proposals.

Members of the States Review Committee including Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq, Deputy Gavin St Pier, Deputy Matt Fallaize, Deputy Mark Dorey and Deputy Richard Condor will present and there will be an opportunity for questions afterwards.

The meetings will take place at 19:00 at Beau Sejour in the Cambridge and Delancey Rooms on;

 

Deputy Matt Falliaze said:

"These proposals will significantly change the constitution of the States Assembly and include proposals to reduce the number of States Members. Further the proposals will change the way our Committees are organised."

"We have had a lot of debate in recent years both within the States and within our community and I know the public are keen for reform. I hope that members of our community will take the time to attend the meetings."
