Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:
Can the department please answer the following questions stemming from public concerns about parking and road safety in the petit bouet area?
-Parking is clearly an issue in the area as many properties don't have their own or on street parking. Will the department consider putting more on road parking in the area?
-Would the department consider making the road one way with a 'no right turn' at its exit to the sea front? Can you please explain your reasons for yes/no?
Environment Department Response:
Le Bouet is defined in the Department's Road Hierarchy as a Traffic Priority Route whose primary function is to distribute traffic and therefore the functional emphasis is on mobility and free traffic flow. Whilst the development of the Admiral Park site is likely to have reduced traffic flows in this road to some degree because of the construction of Elizabeth Avenue, the designation of this road remains unchanged and in this context, there are no plans to introduce on-road public parking which would create an interruption to traffic flows. Similarly, there are no plans to introduce a one-way system or no-right turn at the Seafront given the likely impact of displaced traffic at other road junctions in the area.
The Department is unaware of any direct contact being made by residents of this road outlining their concerns about Le Bouet. However, in all likelihood given the lack of public parking in the vicinity and the designation of the road it would have been suggested for them to make contact with landowners in the area who control significant amounts of private parking to see whether arrangements could be made for the spaces to be utilised by residents even if it is restricted to only outside of business hours.
