Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:
I am doing an article following the end of the North Show. We wanted to ask the department whether there are any requirements, with events like this, to leave Saumarez Park in the state it was before the event? If so, what are the requirements - whether it is in place as damage could have an impact on future planting at the park?
Environment Department Response:
There are conditions for hiring Saumarez Park but poor weather cannot be predicted and the Department takes a reasonable view on unavoidable damage caused due to wet conditions. The Park has been seen in worse condition after events here in previous years.
The area will be reviewed next week after the North Show organisers have completed break down of the event but the damage is relatively easily dealt with.
The Department will organise remedial work and the grassed surfaces will recover over the next six months. There will be no impact on future planting.
