Prior to the formation of the Environment Department in 2004 several small fee increases were made in respect of the exchange of certain vehicle registration marks.
It has become apparent that those fees were not in accordance with the legal procedures in force at the time. Over payments will only have been made in respect of:
- Registration marks NOT reserved as special marks but drawn from the pool of numbers held by the Department and allocated to a vehicle already holding a Guernsey mark.
- An exchange of marks between two private individuals where at least one of the marks was a special mark.
The following table sets out the amounts overcharged:
Original Fee | Increase | Increase | Increase | Increase |
£25.00 | £1.50 | £1.00 | £1.00 | £1.00 |
New Fee | £26.50 | £27.50 | £28.50 | £29.50 |
The Environment Department is inviting vehicle owners who have transferred registration marks in the above categories during the years in question to apply for a refund of the amounts overcharged.
Claimants should note that only fees for the transfer of registration marks in the above categories are affected; fees for the transfer of marks bought at auction are not repayable. Fees for the retention of marks (Certificates of Entitlement) are also not repayable.
Claims must be made on the appropriate form which will be available from the Department's offices from 7th February 2012 or can be downloaded from www.gov.gg/traffic. All claims must be received by 29th June 2012. An information leaflet giving full details of the process for making a claim may also be downloaded from the website.
