The Longue Hougue recycling facility will be making the most of the daylight hours as the site moves to its summer opening times.
From 31 March the recycling site will be open from 7.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.
Public Services Recycling Officer, Tina Norman-Ross, said:
"The Longue Hougue site is a very popular facility. Last year more than 62,000 vehicles visited the site and over 10,000 disclaimers were signed allowing visitors to take items away for reuse. With the longer opening hours in place at the weekend and Bank holidays, I'm sure islanders will find it more convenient, both for dropping off and collecting items that can be reused".
As well as the thousands of items reused by islanders such as bicycles and old flower pots, nearly 1000 tonnes of material was recycled via Longue Hougue facility in 2011.
Mrs Norman-Ross said:
"Items and materials being reused or recycled through the Longue Hougue reduces the amount of waste going to landfill and extends the life of Mont Cuet".
