Aah Meanz Pop - The Art of Brands

'Aah Meanz Pop - The Art of Brands' exhibition will feature hundreds of well‐known brands from the 1900s‐1980s, including names such as Bovril, Sunlight Soap, Kensitas cigarettes and Andrews Liver Salts.

Objects on loan from the Museum of Brands in London will include branded posters and packaging, and will include screens showing popular TV advertisements from years gone by.

This exhibition was created by Guernsey based advertising agency Betley Whitehorne, which celebrates 20 years of business during 2012, and will feature 'The Robert Opie Collection' from the Museum of Brands. Robert Opie is a consumer historian who began collecting objects aged 16 with a packet of Munchies, and now has over 12,000 brand objects associated with daily life.

For some visitors this display will be a real trip down memory lane, and for families it will be fascinating to see how well‐known brands of today like Kellogg's or Heinz, have changed over the years. Children who visit the Discovery Room can take the opportunity to enter a free competition by designing their own product, poster and slogan.

The exhibition opens at Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery on 30 June and continues until 16 September and is accompanied by a small display in the museum foyer about the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Visitors to the 'Aah Meanz Pop - The Art of Brands' exhibition can also visit the new Rona Cole Art Gallery as part of the admission price.
