The States is seeking expressions of interest from people who may wish to put themselves forward to act as independent Non-States Members on a Special Review Committee that will be formed at the end of June to undertake a comprehensive review of the "structure and functions of the legislature and the government in Guernsey".
In March 2012 the States approved a Requête led by Deputy Fallaize which will review all aspects of the way in which Guernsey is governed and will be the first comprehensive review since the Machinery of Government changes were introduced eight years ago.
The Chief Minister will automatically be Chairman of the Special Committee and whoever is elected as Chairman of the States Assembly and Constitution Committee will also serve, together with one other Member of the Policy Council, two sitting Members of the States and the two independent people who are Non-States Members. The Chief Minister as Chairman of the Review Committee will be putting forward nominations at the June States Meeting although other names may be put forward from the floor of the Assembly.
It was made clear in the Requête that ideally those putting themselves forward for the independent members' position should have "relevant skills and experience of the structure and functions of legislatures and governments".
Anyone interested in having their name put forward is asked to write to the Chief Minister at the Policy Council at Frossard House no later than Monday 21 May 2012.
Expressions of interest should be sent in writing to: The Chief Minister, Policy Council, Sir Charles Frossard House, La Charroterie, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 1FH
