Working in Education
One of the States of Guernsey Education Department's core focuses is ensuring that our schools are staffed with the best available teachers, teaching assistants and other staff.
We employ more than 1,000 staff in 5 employee groups: teachers, lecturers, teaching assistants, established staff and public service employees.
We aim to appoint candidates who do not require a work-related housing licence to all education service posts wherever possible. The Education Board has signed up to a recruitment policy based on the following statement: 'Wherever possible the Education Board will seek to appoint a residentially qualified candidate, subject to the proviso that this does not compromise the quality of the service delivery that the Education Department wishes to maintain'.
For further information on the control about who can live and work in Guernsey please click here for more information on Who Can: Live and Work in Guernsey.
Different rules apply to working in Alderney where the Education Department operates an all-age school, St. Anne's.
We advertise our vacancies on this website, in the Guernsey Press and, where appropriate, the Times Educational Supplement or other professional publications. Vacancies open to candidates who do not hold residential qualifications are those where a housing licence has been approved in principle and this is indicated on the vacancy details.
