Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services has coordinated improvements at the Bathing Pools this week to enhance the facilities.
The works, which will finish on 15th March, include:
- restoring the steps to the north of the café
- increasing the grip of surfaces adjacent to the pool
- landscaping to introduce native wildflowers
Improving the grip will require a process called bush hammering which involves roughing up the surface of the concrete.
Where possible, contractors are trying to minimise disruption. However, on the 14th and 15th March the Ladies Pool will need to be closed, but the Children's Pool will remain open.
So that the pools can remain open as much as possible, some areas will also need to be cordoned off on other days whilst the work is taking place.
Jim Robinson, Director of Natural Environment, said:
"It's fantastic that our historic bathing pools are used all year round, but that does mean that there isn't ever really a good time to carry out improvements. That being said, we wanted to get in ahead of the summer when we know that the pools be even busier!
"Thank you to islanders for their patience whilst we make these improvements."
