Student nurses graduation success

Tuesday 13 February 2024

23 student nurses from The Guernsey Institute have graduated with either their BSc Nursing award or the post-graduate awards.

The graduation ceremony took place at St Pierre Park Hotel, and was the 16th of its kind to be held in Guernsey. The proceedings were officiated by Professor Carmel Clancy, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Social care and Education at Middlesex University who conferred and presented the degrees to the students.

Middlesex is partnered with the Institute of Health & Social Care Studies, part of The Guernsey Institute, to allow these students to study their degrees on-island.

The 11 student nurses are now working locally as registered nurses for Health & Social Care, while the post-graduate scheme is designed to support the development of professional practice.

Dr Tracey McClean, Executive Director at The Guernsey Institute, said:

"These ceremonies are the highlight of the academic year for us. It is fantastic to see the students complete their studies, take up employment and even commit to further learning. Balancing study, work and home life is challenging, and some students have had to face difficult situations during their programmes, but they have overcome these difficulties and succeeded.

"Whilst these programmes are mainly accessed by Registered Health and Social Care Professionals, Learners from other occupational backgrounds, including the wider civil service, have benefitted from this educational offer."

The Guernsey Institute is currently recruiting to the programmes starting in September 2024. This includes the nursing programmes, Teacher Training and the Masters provision.
