Monday 29 January 2024

The first quarterly cash prize draw to reward households for taking part in the Household Expenditure Survey will be drawn tomorrow [Tuesday 30th January].

One lucky winner will receive the top prize of £150, with the runner up winning £100 and third place receiving £50. The winners will be notified by phone or email and the winning numbers will be published on https://gov.gg/hes.

There will be a further three cash prize draws; on 30th July, April and October 2024. To sign up please visit https://gov.gg/volunteer4hes.

So far 760 letters have been issued, inviting randomly selected households to take part and 550 of them have been visited by our fieldworkers or have made contact with the office. 10% of them have agreed to take part. An additional 83 households have volunteered to take part and 33 of them have completed the survey.

The oldest respondent so far has been 87 years of age with the youngest 'main shopper' to date being 21.

What's involved in the survey?

One of our team of fieldworkers will make an appointment to visit you and help you complete the initial questionnaire, which covers regular household payments and other large purchases. Household members will then all be asked to keep a record of everything that they buy in shops or online over the following two weeks.

Further information about the survey can be found at https://gov.gg/hes. The survey team are happy to answer any questions by email at hes@gov.gg or by phone on 07781 419273. The team are also keen to hear from anyone that might like to join the survey fieldwork team; anyone that is interested can get in touch using the contact details above.
