A new opportunity to train for a role within the care sector has been announced today. Pathway to Caring is a joint initiative between Health and Social Care and Employment and Social Security, with the support of the private care home sector. Aimed at anyone who is not working, the course will help people looking to enter the type of rewarding work that the care sector offers, to complete their Care Certificate prior to starting work. The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sectors.
This 7-week, part-time course is suitable for people looking for either full or part-time work and starts on Tuesday, 9 April 2024, and the last 4 weeks involves practical work in a clinical setting.
There is no course fee, and no specific requirements in terms of educational background, but applicants will be asked to undergo an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) disclosure prior to the course starting.

The Pathway to Caring course is a wonderful opportunity for those looking to enter work within a health or social care setting, and it is anticipated that candidates who pass the Care Certificate qualification will be able to access flexible employment options and future training. If this new course is successful, the aim is to run further courses and provide placements across the whole care sector."
