The Guernsey Institute is now moving toward full integration with funding secured for the construction of phase 1 of the Post-16 Campus at Les Ozouets.
Since the successful amendment to the Government Work Plan, the organisation and the Transforming Education Programme have restarted work to prepare TGI for its move from five campuses across the island into one, purpose-built facility.
The Guernsey Institute is comprised of the Guernsey College of Further Education, the Institute of Health & Social Care Studies and the GTA University Centre.
As it consolidates operations under one roof, the organisation will also streamline its offerings under the TGI umbrella while preserving the unique identities of its constituent parts.
- TGI University Centre: Formerly known as the Institute of Health & Social Care Studies, this will encompass a broad spectrum of professional qualifications, such as a range of masters-level courses which include opportunities outside of health.
- TGI College: Building on the legacy of the Guernsey College of Further Education, TGI College will continue to offer a wide range of vocational and technical courses to students of all ages.
- TGI Apprenticeships: Currently The Guernsey Apprenticeship, will serve as a cornerstone of our commitment to hands-on, practical learning experiences, directly linking education with industry needs.
- TGI Business School: The GTA University Centre will form a central part of the TGI Business School, delivering professional education to local business.
Jacki Hughes, Executive Principal of The Guernsey Institute, said:
"Our goal has always been to deliver high quality technical, vocational and professional education to the Bailiwick community, and with funding now secured for the Post-16 Campus, work can begin on preparing us to do that when we move into our new facility. We have been ready to go with this work, and so it is exciting to see some key pillars beginning, starting with the rebranding of parts of the organisation.
"Renaming the Institute of Health & Social Care Studies to the TGI University Centre makes so much sense for the huge breadth of work that team does. Offering professional qualifications, initial teacher training and much more, they do not only deliver education to health professionals, so this work is much needed. And bringing the TGI College fully into TGI's brand is another exciting step towards full integration.
"The Post-16 Campus will provide us with the purpose built and specialist facilities we need to deliver our huge range of courses, to students from 14-years-old to 99, and we are now all working hard preparing for that move and what that transition will look like."
The Guernsey Institute's elements of the Post-16 Campus will contain facilities such as professional business spaces for the GTA, nursing simulation suites for TGI University Centre, and mechanics workshops, plastering studios and more for TGI College.
The build at Les Ozouets will bring the organisation out of not fit-for-purpose, dated facilities and into something where educators and students alike can flourish. Tenders are currently out for the demolition of the old St Peter Port school.
The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture will be keeping the community up to date on the build project as key milestones are reached, and, alongside education staff, will be contacting residents living around Les Ozouets in the near future to give them an update on the timeline and plans.
