The Chief Officer of the Culture & Leisure Department, Dave Chilton, is to retire from the States of Guernsey at the end of the year.
Mr Chilton, 60, joined the States of Guernsey in 1988 as manager of the Guernsey Dairy. He has been in his current post since the establishment of the Department in 2004, and has held several senior posts within the organisation including eight years as Chief Executive of the former Recreation Committee, which preceded Culture & Leisure.
Mr Chilton said:
"Having reached retirement age in March of this year I have made the decision to retire from the States of Guernsey at the end of 2012. It will not be a full retirement as I will be taking up a part time post in the voluntary sector as Chief Executive of the Guernsey Community Foundation with effect from January 2013. I have maintained a keen interest in the voluntary sector and am therefore pleased to have been given the opportunity to work in this area."
Culture & Leisure Minister Mike O'Hara thanked Mr Chilton for his years of service to the Island and wished him well for the future.
Deputy O'Hara said:
"Dave has consistently worked hard over the years to improve the delivery of culture and leisure services for the people of Guernsey. The public does not always get to see the work of our civil servants, but Dave is able to leave behind a very visible and positive legacy. As well as helping to bring the Island Games to Guernsey in 2003, it was largely down to Dave that we are all able to benefit from the excellent facilities at Beau Sejour and Footes Lane, the redevelopment of which he was instrumental in delivering for the Games."
States of Guernsey Chief Executive Mike Brown, on behalf of the Civil Service, thanked Mr Chilton for his contribution to the States of Guernsey.
Mr Brown said:
"Dave has contributed significantly to Guernsey's public sector not only in his Departmental role but also as a member of the corporate management teams responsible for bringing positive change to the States of Guernsey as an organisation.
"Whilst Dave will very much be missed, I am delighted that his public service experience will continue to be put to use for the benefit of islanders in his retirement"
Mr Chilton's replacement will be announced at a later date.
