In line with the 2020 Vision for the future of health and social care in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Health and Social Services Department continues to move towards a programme of 'Promote, Improve and Protect'. Therefore, the Department is supporting the UK NHS's "Stoptober" challenge.
Alongside its usual free service for any smokers wanting to stop, Quitline is supporting any smokers who wish to take part in the UK's NHS "Stoptober" challenge.
National TV and radio advertising are being used to promote the campaign with the aim of encouraging smokers to quit for 28 days from the 1 of October. Quitline is very willing to support anyone who wishes to commence a 28 day quit from either 1 October or any other date in October.
Research has found people stopping for 28 days are five times more likely to quit for good. Smokers who complete the challenge will benefit from feeling healthier and saving money. A 20 a day smoker stopping on 1 October will already have saved over £450 by Christmas.
Quitline will offer advice, support and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy for anyone throughout the 28 day challenge and anyone wishing to remain smokefree following the challenge will be eligible for up to 10 weeks free Nicotine Replacement Therapy in total.
For further information on the "Stoptober" challenge or any of the services available through Quitline please telephone 01481 233 170.
