Registration of Cars

Media Enquiry from John Fernandez, BBC Guernsey:

I'm just e-mailing of the back of stats released in Jersey which are available here through the lovely Vehicle Registration & Licensing Department down the road. I'm looking to see whether I could get stats for 2003-2013 for the amount of new cars registered in Guernsey over that period. I've been in contact with Dave Beausire and he says the stats are readily available at the office and while he can't give them to me, you can! So if you could ping them over, that would be superb.

Environment Department Response:

Since 2009 the Department has kept detailed statistics on the registration of both 'new' and 'not new' vehicles in Guernsey. New vehicles are brand new vehicles registered in Guernsey through locally based motor dealers. Not new vehicles covers all other motor vehicles registered in Guernsey for the first time and can range from a brand new vehicle purchased from a UK dealer to a 60 year old classic car purchased by a collector.

Prior to 2009 analysis of vehicle records simply reflected the change between the total number of registered vehicles on our system year on year based on new (and not new) registrations less any de-registrations for scrapped or exported vehicles.

Given that the Department does not know the purpose of your enquiry, for the time being I have attached a copy of the more detailed analysis of 'new' and 'not new' cars and light vans registered for the period 2009 - to date. Should you require any further information or wish to be more specific with the nature of your enquiry, the Department would be pleased to assist.
