The Driving Examination Services Unit performs a key role in maintaining road safety standards in Guernsey and Alderney through the professional testing of candidates across the whole spectrum of driving tests from scooter and motorcycle drivers through to car drivers, taxi drivers, lorry drivers, bus drivers and articulated vehicle drivers.
In 2014 the Unit undertook 1,736 practical driving tests and received £65,000 in test fees. However, the cost of providing the service in 2014, including the salaries of the examiners, maintenance of the online practical test booking system, management fees, overheads and other direct costs amounted to approximately £110,000.
Having reviewed the current fee levels, which are considerably lower than the equivalent fees charged in Jersey and the UK, the Department has decided to increase them to a level more closely associated with the actual cost of providing the service. This decision accords with existing States policy for determining fees and charges.
The new fees outlined below are being introduced by Regulation and will come into effect for all practical driving tests which will take place on or after the 20 April 2015.
