Guernsey Press Enquiry:
Back in January Environment was talking about going to T&R for funding to repair Fermain's seawall. However, it was delayed due to busy board meetings at that time.
I wanted to get an update about what was going on with Fermain, whether the department has asked for funding, what are the shortlisted options for the repair and whether there was any timescale for when the work could take place?
Environment Department Response:
There are several options with varying estimated costs for the repair of the wall at Fermain. The options for Fermain, along with several other areas of coastal defence requiring major repair, will be considered under the States Capital Investment Portfolio (SCIP) process which is administered by the Treasury and Resources Department. As part of this process it is likely the Environment Department will be required to submit a States Report to enable full consideration of the repairs at Fermain and other coastal defence sites in order that the States may assure that value for money for all these repairs is achieved and that the repairs are given appropriate priority against other capital projects.
The Environment Department is unable to give any firm timescale for these works.
