The existing accessible parking space at The Albany is now available twenty four hours a day. Previously the space only reverted to accessible parking outside of unloading times at certain times of the day.
The space has been marked to give increased width either side and to the rear of parked vehicles so people with reduced mobility will have more space to negotiate around the vehicle they have travelled in.
Colin Le Page, Licensing and Operations Manager for Traffic and Highway Services said,
"This is a key location for accessible parking as it is close to the new crossing point at the bottom of Cornet Street and so the two schemes complement each other very well."
"The dedicated space means access to this busy area of town will now be much easier. The second phase of this project will see dropped kerbs installed by the bay which will further improve access for disabled people."
"We are continually working with Access For All, Mr Reece-Sheerin and accessible bay users to look at more options for Blue Badge parking places or improvements in town and elsewhere. As part of this we will monitor usage of the disabled parking space to make sure it meets the needs of those who use it."
Access for All Vice Chairman Tony Yates said, "Access for all is pleased to see that Traffic and Highway Services are working towards making Guernsey's roads and parking spaces more accessible."
