A Travel Plan will be developed for people who work at, or visit, the Princess Elizabeth Hospital so that options can be assessed to manage parking pressures at the site.
Health & Social Care is being supported in its efforts to address the well-known issues by Traffic and Highway Services, which has commissioned WSP UK Limited to develop the Travel Plan.
Given the amount of car movements currently experienced by the PEH, parking on the site has been the subject of frustration for many years - with people sometimes struggling to find spaces for appointments or to visit their relatives. The Travel Plan will seek to identify and examine options available to manage this pressure.
WSP UK has carried out field work at the PEH site to establish the volume of all types of traffic (car, foot, bus) to the campus each day - as well as investigating how long visitors were staying at the hospital or the Oberlands Centre.
In addition to the field work, WSP UK has also asked HSC staff to complete a detailed survey about their shift patterns, how they travel to work, whether they do the school run on the way etc.
In order to gather comments from the public, they have also released an online survey asking people to provide feedback on their experiences of travel (including parking) to the PEH campus. The online survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/PEHvisitors
The Travel Plan will feed into plans for the future redevelopment of the PEH site - the Outline Business Case for which will be presented to the States in early 2019.
Jan Coleman, Director of Hospital Modernisation for HSC, said:
"This is an opportunity to ensure that travel issues to and from the PEH site are properly considered and factored into our programme to modernise the facilities provided at the hospital campus. We are grateful for the support provided by E&I in respect of the commissioning of a specialist organisation who we hope will provide clear options for us to manage the needs of our community and staff."
