Care Values Framework - Engagement Tree launch

Tuesday 15 January 2019

At the time of year when most are taking down their trees after the seasonal festivities, the Committee for Health & Social Care is putting one up!

The "Engagement Tree" is an initiative of HSC's Care Values Framework vision which states:

"People will be at the centre of care that is responsive to their needs. We will have caring, compassionate, empowered, educated and accountable Care Providers adhering to their professional codes".

The Engagement Tree, which has been sponsored by cancer support charity MacMillan, seeks to find out what compassion means to each and every one of us, using health and care services in the Bailiwick.

The tree will be placed at different locations over the next year and is an interactive exhibit, in which islanders can write what compassion means to them on "leaves" before placing them on the tree. Islanders will also be asked to think what barriers there are to compassion in care environments.

These will then be gathered and used to inform work being carried out under the Care Values Framework, and in particular looking at identifying and overcoming the barriers to delivering compassionate care to our community.

The Engagement Tree will initially be placed in the Gloucester Room canteen at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital before moving on to a new site.

An electronic version of the framework can be found at gov.gg/carevaluesframework.
