The States of Guernsey and Guernsey Airport are liaising with air operators, as well as the UK Government and the other Crown Dependencies, following the announcement that Flybe is entering administration.
While the impact of cancelled routes is not as severe for Guernsey as it is to some other destinations in the British Isles who are more reliant on Flybe, some routes are affected.
However, steps are being taken by local operators Blue Islands and Aurigny to mitigate the impact and ensure travellers in the short-term are able to get to their destination.
It is also important to clarify that Blue Islands, as a franchise partner of Flybe, carries Flybe branding, but is not affected by Flybe entering administration and is continuing to operate its routes as normal.
The routes that are operated by Flybe are:
Birmingham (via Jersey)
Exeter
Heathrow
Blue Islands have made arrangements to provide services to Birmingham and Exeter routes today (5th March) and passengers booked with Flybe can travel with Blue Islands instead. Details of Blue Islands schedule to Birmingham and Exeter are available on blueislands.com. Blue Islands will also honour flights booked to Jersey with Flybe, as well as those booked with Blue Islands.
Aurigny is offering a substantially discounted service to Flybe ticket holders, to travel to Guernsey from any Aurigny destination. This means there are alternative London routes available to those who were due to travel through Heathrow.
Blue Islands' own Southampton and Jersey services will continue as normal.
Deputy Lyndon Trott, Vice-President of the Policy & Resources Committee, said:
'The States is working with the airport and operators to ensure business as usual as far as possible, and to ensure we protect our overall air connectivity. We welcome the steps being taken by Blue Islands and Aurigny to ensure travellers can get where they are going. Flybe's services were a valuable part of our network, but today shows the huge importance of our local operators in ensuring our resilience and minimising disruption for those travelling to and from the Island.'
Travellers who incur additional costs, or who are due to travel in the coming days and weeks with Flybe should contact their travel insurance provider. Those who have booked with a tour operator should contact that tour operator. If you paid for your flight on a credit card it may be insured, please check with your credit card company.
Further discussions with local operators are ongoing with regard to what support they can offer to travellers in the coming days, and we will provide further updates.
