Director of Public Health is asking Islanders to start social distancing

Friday 13 March 2020

As we start to see more cases of COVID-19 in the UK and more widespread community transmission of the virus around the world, the Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink, is asking the community to consider further measures to reduce the contact people have with each other.

These measures, known as Social Distancing, are initially being suggested for travel and public events. These decisions are based on the pattern of transmission and evidence on how well the measures can work.

Dr Brink said:

'Social distancing measures will contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community and enable us to continue to deliver our essential public services.

By limiting the amount of contact people have with each other, we can slow down the spread of the infection.

Putting out advice of this nature is not taken lightly as we are aware of the significant impact this can have on people's lives.'

Islanders working with us by considering avoiding all non-essential travel and taking social distancing measures will help us push back the impact COVID-19 will have in the Bailiwick.
