On 2 March 2020, the Committee for Health & Social Care published its Policy Letter containing recommendations to update the 1997 legislation based on current scientific evidence and following consultation with local clinicians involved in providing these services.
Following publication of the recommendations, the public were invited to contact HSC or States Members to comment on the proposals.
The Committee received in excess of 300 responses from members of the public expressing a wide range of views with 66% of respondents expressing support for the recommendations.

It is recognised that abortion is a subject matter which attracts a range of views and is often deeply personal. HSC is respectful of this and is grateful to everyone who has shared their thoughts on its recommended changes to the law.
