Guernsey Music Service doesn't stop because of lockdown

Monday 01 March 2021

The Guernsey Music Service has put together a video showcasing some of the music it has continued to create throughout this second lockdown.

The Service has continued to engage with all of its pupils despite not being able to meet in person at the moment, and in addition to engaging in some small group lessons and with online resources, pupils have been sending in videos of their instrumental pieces for feedback. This has led to the creation of the Service's latest ensemble project that brings them all together virtually.

It shows their pupils' love for music, and primarily features its Youth Choir singing 'Love Divine' alongside the videos that the pupils have been sending in throughout lockdown.

Tim Wright, Head of the Guernsey Music Service, said:

"In any normal week the Music Service engages with over 1,000 young people, who attend individual and group lessons in school, ensembles throughout the week and on Saturdays at Music Centre. This lockdown came just before our Winter Concerts at St James and also before the Guernsey Eisteddfod - which this year is celebrating its centenary. Hundreds of our pupils were due to take part in these events."

"As well as being an important part of the cultural and creative education of our young people, music is so important for their well-being, and so many of our pupils continue their love of music into adulthood, contributing so greatly to the rich cultural life of Guernsey. We look forward to being able to make music together in person very soon."

The Service's video is now available on the Friends of Guernsey Music Centre Facebook page, here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=940918966649464
