Wednesday 04 May 2022

Their Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex will be arriving in Guernsey on the afternoon of Liberation Day this year, as part of their visit to the Bailiwick for the 77th anniversary of Liberation and to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The Earl and Countess will first visit the Liberation Tea Dance at Beau Séjour, which will see the island's Occupation Generation celebrating together.

After spending time meeting islanders at the event, Their Royal Highnesses will travel to Castle Cornet. There, The Earl and Countess will attend the Ecumenical Service in the Middle Ward of the Castle, before watching a special performance of 'Sarnia Cherie' by the Guernsey Music Service Youth Choir, followed by the 21-gun salute.

After the salute, Their Royal Highnesses will then visit the Guernsey Yacht Club, where they will have the chance to watch the Liberation Day Cavalcade as it travels around the Model Yacht Pond.

After the Cavalcade, The Earl and Countess will meet islanders celebrating Liberation Day along the Castle Emplacement, before leaving for Government House.

On the 10th May, Their Royal Highnesses will first visit Forest Primary School in the morning to plant a tree to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. They will also meet the winner of the local Platinum Jubilee for Guernsey flag competition.

Following this visit, they will travel to Alderney, where they will visit a number of sites and meet representatives of several Alderney organizations. They will then travel to Sark, where they will present the island's emergency service personnel with a Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal, before meeting Sark's Occupation Generation in the Island Hall.
