AGC and Guernsey Registry work together to streamline process for 'managing officials'

Wednesday 07 February 2024

Guernsey Registry and the Association of Guernsey Charities have been working together to improve the process by which all charity and non-profit organisation 'managing officials' must register their details with the registry.

Changes are being introduced to automate the work for managing officials - which are people who control a charity or non-profit organisation or direct its governance - who already have a 'Person Registration'.

This follows feedback at the Association of Guernsey Charities' members meeting, which the Guernsey Registry has taken onboard.

The situation remains that all new managing officials are required to personally complete a Person Registration. However, any managing officials of charities or NPOs that were formed through a company or foundation - and therefore already have Person Registrations - will not need to provide further information to the Registry.

The Registry is seeking to do the same for other charity and NPO managing officials who also have an existing Person Registration because they are, or once were, a director on a Guernsey company, or councillors or guardians on a foundation. The Registry will be contacting these managing officials to advise them of how they can manage their own personal information.

Any other charity or NPO managing official not covered by these changes has until the end of 2024 to provide the additional information. The Registry will be allocating them a Person Registration ID number and guidance on how to update the information.

Wayne Bulpitt, Association of Guernsey Charities Chair, said:

'We are delighted that the Guernsey Registry has listened to our members feedback and we will be working in partnership with the Registry to provide support events and assistance to managing officials.'

Helen Gains, Guernsey Registry Registrar, said:

'We welcome the positive engagement we have had from the Association of Guernsey Charities and we're pleased to have come to this agreed position. Ensuring we have all relevant details of charity and NPO managing officials as required but we are always keen to work with stakeholders to find ways to make the process as smooth as possible.'

Person Registration guidance is available on the Guernsey Registry website at www.guernseyregistry.com/personregistration
