Environment Department Response to media enquiry from BBC Radio Guernsey.
Enquiry:
We are following up all the calls made to our Sunday Phone In programme yesterday.
A caller asked whether more information could be made available from Environment regarding what was happening with the bus contract negotiations.
The caller also asked whether or not passengers will be able to use the remaining journeys on their Ormer Cards on the new bus service.
Please could you provide us with a response to these two issues.
Response:
Extremely constructive talks continue in respect of the bus contract and those talks are now focusing on the detailed operational issues and due diligence checks. The Environment Department remains confident that the new operator will be operating the service on 1 April 2012 and already has much work in hand.
In respect of the Ormer cards, the Department can confirm that they can continue to be used on the buses after 1 April 2012 and that existing journeys will be honoured. The Ormer card will continue to be a product of the service after 1 April 2012.
