Children Law Review

The Children & Young People's Board (CYPB) was set-up to give oversight and scrutiny on the issues affecting children and young people in Guernsey and Alderney including matters affecting children in care and care leavers.

Part of solving the issues faced by children and young people in care is the review of the current Children Law as was implemented in 2008 to safeguard children and young people and offer support lanes for families.

The Board has proposed changes to the current Children Law that look to improve the current system whilst keeping the founding principles, including the welfare of the child as the priority improvement in changes to the law.

The Committee for Health & Social has agreed the proposals for change to be considered by the States of Deliberation at its meeting on 28 September, 2022. The Review of the Children Law and Outcomes policy letter was lodged on 19 August, 2022.
