Students have today received a pack of information to support them with further advice both before they travel and after they arrive home.
The pack contains lots of helpful and practical advice about how to self-isolate properly, how to travel to their home or place of self-isolation safely, reminders about no hugging family on arrival and much more. It has also been published on the student page of the States of Guernsey's COVID website https://covid19.gov.gg/guidance/students.
Student flights are scheduled to run between 1st and 6th December from a range of regional airports. Positive discussions have taken place with the Department for Education regarding the need for some students to travel before the end of the current lockdown in England. Students have been sent a letter from the Director of Operations for Education to explain that this travel represents a 'reasonable excuse' given the circumstances, should they need it.
Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, said:
'We have been very impressed with the mature approach shown by Bailiwick students, a number of whom have already returned home, but wanted to give them as much support as possible so the pack of information sent to them today provides all the detail they need - for their journey and arrival - in one place.
'As we have seen in recent weeks, the testing on arrival process has been working very well in terms of picking up cases and ensuring they are immediately contained. As part of our communications with students we have explained that the arrivals process is now very different and reassured that there is a team of specially-trained staff meeting all passengers to support them with testing on arrival.
'We look forward to students returning, completing the mandatory self-isolation and then being able to enjoy Christmas on their home island.'
