The 'Justice Framework 2022-2029: Enhancing Our Safe, Inclusive, Just and Tolerant Community' Policy Letter seeks approval for Guernsey's first Justice Framework, which is expected to be considered by the States Assembly at the 25th May, 2022 States Meeting.
The Justice Framework provides a vision, outcomes and principles that aim to guide and coordinate improvements to our justice system over the next seven years (2022-2029). It covers justice in its broadest sense which includes social, family and criminal justice.
Following the review of Guernsey's justice system in 2020, the Justice Framework sets out how to begin the journey towards reaching the proposed States' vision for justice to build 'an inclusive and responsible community where everyone feels safe, secure and individuals' rights are protected'. The Justice Framework is intended to provide some focus, while being sufficiently broad enough to respond to the evolving needs of the community at this time.
The development of the Framework was resourced through the Government Work Plan 2021-2025, as part of a number of recovery actions seeking to 'keep the island safe and secure' in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
